MIS – New standard of care for surgical procedures
Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) benefits over conventional surgery
- Firstly, it is safer. With smaller incisions, there’s less trauma to the body and far less blood loss.
- Secondly, the scarring is reduced. Most incisions just take a stitch or two to close.
- Thirdly, the recovery period is shorter. Recovery from traditional surgery typically takes six to eight weeks, whereas patients who have undergone minimally invasive procedures, usually recover in only two.
- And finally, the length of hospital stay is reduced. Most MIS procedures are associated with a 48 hour discharge or scheduled outpatient surgery.
